PROJECT 1 | Modelling of an Architectural Design
INTRODUCTION
This involves completion of basic form and external model of a selected architectural design. During this stage the completed 3D model will reflect the knowledge of using the software to create 3D geometries.
OBJECTIVES
-
Understand and execute the functions of Standard Primitives, Splines & Modifiers.
-
Understand and utilise polygon modelling and NURBS modelling in producing the 3D models.
WORK IN PROGRESS PROJECT 1

Draw the plan out by using AutoCAD

Elevation is done by tallying the floor plan

Import the plan and elevation in Rhinoceros and tally them together

Extrude floor slab from elevation and makehole from a triangle curve to cut the floor slab in shape

Draw a triangle curve at the side and makehole ( select <Normaltocutve> then <Alongcurve> ) to cut the floor slab in shape and in correct angle

Makehole at the middle and extrude two slab at the side

Extrude the extended wall along the hole

Extrude all the wall from the floor slab

Extrude and align the slab above each door

Create door frame and scale by Scale1D

Create door by extruding curve and scale by Scale1D

The walls are cut in shape by using Boolean Differences

Extrude and create all the glass frames

Create all the glass by extrude both side

Extrude the roof out from the elevation

Draw a triangle curve at the side and makehole ( select <Normaltocutve> then <Alongcurve> ) to cut the roof in shape and in correct angle

Makehole at the middle and boolean by using two triangle polysurface (extruded from triangle curve)

Extrude the staircase from plan

Create the railing by drawing line and pipe it

Create, set and arrange each layers, wall (yellow), roof and floor slab (drak grey)

Glass (white), door, glass frame & slab (grey), railing & door frame (black)

Finalise everything and start render

PROJECT 2 | Still Rendering with Materials, Lights, Camera Views with Site Context
INTRODUCTION
The second project involves the production of photorealistic still rendering of the selected architecture design with materials, appropriate camera views and post-production enhancement on the visual outcome. The visualisation work would be assessed on the types and ways materials are used, types of lights and effects used to set up the scene, setup of appropriate camera views for rendering and skills of using
post-production tools to enhance the visual outcome.
OBJECTIVES
-
Able to import .dwg file into 3DS Max.
-
To manage the 3D scene using layers.
-
To create materials for 3D objects.
-
To use lights in 3DS Max for exterior and interior rendering.
-
To set up good photographic compositions using cameras in 3DS Max for final rendering.
-
To understand and execute the appropriate rendering settings.
-
To enhance the visual outcome of the renderings using post-production tools.

PROJECT 3 | A maximum 90 seconds Animation of the Completed 3D Scene
INTRODUCTION
This project involves production of a maximum 90 seconds animation of the completed 3D scene using 3DS Max’s animation commands and tools. It also involves simple video editing work such as stitching video clips, background music & special effects editing, through the use of Windows Movie Maker, iMovie, Adobe Premiere and After Affects.
OBJECTIVES
-
Able to import .dwg file into 3DS Max.
-
To continue from Project 2, the completed scene is animated.
-
To set up camera paths for animation rendering.
-
To allow students to explore their imagination, inventiveness and storey telling abilities when creating the animation.
